Building A Healthy Mind
Jan 7
I was reading a story last week on cnn.com written by Dr. Sanjay Gupta on how our memory fades as we get older, but yet it doesn’t have to. Remembering he is a neurosurgeon, he negates many of the theories of past years about brain supplements, crossword puzzles, gardening, playing mind games on the computer and others that some thought helped keep our brains more active, putting off dementia.
Instead, Dr. Gupta speaks about exercise and maintaining healthy relationships. I love this quote of his, “If you put it all together, one of the best things you can do for your brain: Take a brisk walk with a close friend and discuss your problems.”
As we start the new year, I think about starting with a healthy body, a cleansed face as the best prep for makeup and now a cleansed mind. I know so many people who keep everything bottled up, afraid to share their fears, problems and life stresses. Maybe it’s the need to appear perfect, but we all know none of us are. How often do we read a story about a celebrity break up and think “wow, I’m surprised. They seemed to have it all”?
Instead of striving for perfection this year, I want to strive for happiness, the feeling of being productive in my own life and in the world, spreading joy, kindness and my thoughts on how to rid the negativity we live with so we can all live a better life.
I look forward to sharing more on this as I share my new business venture with you all. More to come in the year ahead.
